I’m pleased to announce that I will be releasing my first book, Unworthy, in April 2024.
The books are adult fantasy, featuring a modernesque fantasy world where technology is powered by magick, featuring kick ass women, martial arts, honor codes, assassins, humor, pirates, FF and FM romance, lgbt rep, slow burns, enemies to lovers, food porn, and one ornery chicken. Comps are, loosely, Arcane (Netflix), Gideon the Ninth, The Legend of Korra, and Maas’s Crescent City series.
All books will be available in paperback and ebook formats on Amazon, along with inclusion in Kindle Unlimited. There’s still a lot of work to do before book 1 launches–formatting, a reader magnet, social media content production, and promotion, promotion, promotion. That means I’ll have to get on the Tiktok with the youths.
Fuck, it’s been a long road to get here.
I started with one idea–a scene really–that ended up being a big moment…in book 2. And it just exploded from there. I’m also taking a gamble that women who love fantasy have found it in one of two ways–YA books and Game of Thrones on HBO. What I hope to offer this demographic is mature fantasy written for women by a woman. Yeah, there’s going to be violence, sex, profanity, and some shocking stuff…but never, ever, sexual violence. And guess what…even in its darkest moments, it’s going to be a noblebright book, meaning: noble, honorable heroes doing their best to triumph over evil and enjoy a damn pastry here and there.
Why noblebright when grimdark is all the rage? Well, I don’t think grimdark necessarily has mass appeal to a female audience and in talking with my women friends, they’re just…tired. Of the cynical, dark entertainment choices out there that feature some measure of misery, sexual violence, and death. Their appetite for misery porn is nil right now and they simply don’t believe darkness, death, and destruction makes something good or serious or meaningful…not anymore.
So that’s where I’m at. That’s not to say some dark shit won’t go down in my books…evil has to be evil, right? But I want heroes that people can have fun with and root for and, hopefully, fall in love with. So coming 2024…unapologetic noblebright epic fantasy. With trains and airships and warriors with an honor code and sexy pirates and lemon pastries. And fucking indoor plumbing so you know all my characters are clean and smell rather nice…what could be better?
